Chancellor Amanda Trawick Rainey will be sworn in June 16 in Meridian

Newly appointed Chancellor Amanda Trawick Rainey will be sworn in on Friday, June 16, at 11 a.m. at the Lauderdale County Courthouse in Meridian.

Chancellor Charles Smith will administer the oath. Judge Rainey's term will begin on Monday, June 19.
Gov. Tate Reeves appointed Judge Rainey as Chancellor for the 12th Chancery Court District, Place 2. A special election will be held in 2024. The district includes Clarke and Lauderdale counties.

Chancellor Lawrence Primeaux retired from the 12th Chancery post on March 31, creating a judicial vacancy. He served as Chancellor for 16 years.

Judge Rainey, a partner of Witherspoon & Compton, LLC, has practiced law in Chancery Court for more than 23 years, and has served as a Special Master. Her Chancery practice included adoptions, divorce and child custody, conservatorships, guardianships, estate planning, probate matters and real estate transactions. She also served as Meridian City Prosecutor.

Judge Rainey earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Mississippi State University, a Juris Doctor from the University of Mississippi School of Law and a Master of Law in taxation from the University of Alabama School of Law.
